The CARB Clean Truck Check, also known as the Heavy-Duty Inspection and Maintenance (HD-IM) Program, is a California requirement designed to reduce air pollution by ensuring that heavy-duty vehicles meet emissions standards through regular testing.

Any diesel or alternative-fuel vehicle with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 14,000 lbs or more must be tested. This includes semi-trucks, RVs, buses, box trucks, and service vehicles operating in California.

The test may include an OBD (on-board diagnostics) check, a smoke opacity test, and a visual inspection of emissions control systems to make sure they are functioning correctly.

The Clean Truck Check is $75, and the re-test is free.
